The teams had chosen different formations for the match. Home team Grilled Birds went for 2-5-3 while Benfleet Branch 2 has decided to play a 3-4-3 lineup. Grilled seemed to prefer attacking in the middle, taking advantage of their mythical (17) level with that tactic. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to
Bilal Mohammad Harun, but the Grilled player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0! The home side's
Bhavya Panigrahi curled a free kick home after 10 minutes, putting Grilled ahead 2 - 0.
Gilbert Webb had a fantastic opportunity to put Grilled up another goal 14 minutes into the match after a pass through the middle set him free, but he fired just over the crossbar.
Moey Xin Seng sailed high above the opponents as he headed in a corner kick from
Bhavya Panigrahi after 30 minutes of play, making the score 3 - 0. Grilled's
Chad Thach saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 32 minutes. 3 - 0 was the halftime score. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 68 percent of possession.
After 46 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
Chia Kwang Tse off the field.
Lim An Keng took his place. Benfleet's
José Manuel Escobar soared above the crowd, but couldn't knock the corner home 75 minutes into the match. 80 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution.
Radovan Jaška came on for
Gilbert Webb. The crowd roared its approval when
Manuel Vadalà somehow managed to block a shot which seemed to be a certain goal by Benfleet's
Albert Sobeski 82 minutes into the game, following a good move through the middle. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
Aw Keng Chuan got himself booked. The manager of Grilled was not happy.
Moey Xin Seng would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
Yee Jian Hui entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 89 minutes.
Chan Ze Han was handed the Grilled captain's armband. As the match nears its end, the referee has deemed it appropriate to add 1 minute as stoppage time. The match ends 3 - 0. Grilled had most of the ball, with 64 percent of possession.
Chan Ze Han performed admirably for Grilled.
Paulino Trindade turned in a dismal performance, however. Benfleet's top performer was clearly
José Manuel Escobar.
Daniel Neamţiu was a disappointment, however.
