Lau Moves On
In a shock development, Grilled Birds defensive midfielder
Lau Chu Soon has left after just four competitive starts for the club. Lau would thank the club, Tian, teammates and fans in a brief prepared address, which however perhaps left only more questions unanswered. He will now play for Amsterdam's FC Tulp, who badly need a pick-me-up after an opening day 0-3 loss to FC Krap in Kas, in the Dutch V.179.
Pundit Tegbir Singh attributed his departure to a difficult settling-in period, and the emergence of
Aw Keng Chuan, who filled basically the same role. "It's no secret that Lau had unavoidably been unfavourably compared to Aw, from their showings in the same position sitting in front of defence." Singh explained. "Add that to whispers about a questionable cultural fit, and there we have it."
Head coach
Tian Yonghang thanked Lau for his service - if short - at Grilled, with the some half a million dollars of after-tax profit from the S$4.08 million fee, garnered after barely two months, likely making the exit easier to bear. "Lau remains a defensive midfielder with very good potential." Tian said of the 21 year-old. "Tulp should have ready vacancies after divesting themselves of Orlando Agostinelli and Christian Normand last week, so I see it as a win-win for everyone."
The Hattrick Anniversary League would take on another Bunnies trainee, with Belgian VII.2536 league leaders Poockie snagging 18 year-old all-purpose attacker Chau Shi Chuan for a nominal sum. Chau has been competent both as a forward and in midfield for the Rancher Rabbits, and his good natural size has seen him dominant in the air, within his age group. The pro ranks may be another matter, of course.
Chau would also get attention from Nyecks (Spanish Division Seven), MÜSLÜM BABASPOR(YAKARSA DÜNYAYI GARİPLER YAKAR) (Turkish Division Six) and another Anniversary League outfit in Chile's JO team. He would soon be joined by Italian Francesco Ferroni and Spaniards Sergio Zambrano and José Antonio Ceular, as Poockie gaffer Patrik Meesschaert assembles a young squad.
