Squeezing out victory at Old Trafford aside, Grilled Birds were handed an unexpected present, as Club Dinosauria recorded only their second league win of the season against Sarcastic Fringeheads. Fringeheads hadn't lifted the Singapore Cup unscathed, so it seemed, and they were uncharacteristically reserved in allowing Lech Tarkowski and Adam Bargielski to put Deinos ahead. Angelo Longari would reduce from a 69th minute counter, but that was as far as the Fringeheads got.
With this, the Birds are now back at the top of the S-League, with Haha staying within a point thanks to their businesslike 2-0 disposal of Ramseille Volliard FC. Next opponents Tecos Foreign Legion would have an achievement to celebrate too, as they gained a historic first S-League victory in style, 5-2 at home against UDNTK FC.
Eren Serpin fully acknowledged the Legion's potential. "Like us and Haha, they are in the running for a Challenger Cup, and you don't get through multiple knockout rounds through luck alone. As we have seen today, Tecos can be a handful when they get their act together - but I think we won't leave them as much space as UDNTK FC did!"
Chan Ze Han's strike today saw him pull ahead of
Moey Xin Seng and Ryan Kerr to head the S-League scoring chart, which to the Grilled head coach was nothing less than he deserved. "It's a travesty how Chan hasn't had a scoring title to his name yet. Maybe this season?"
Farmer Bunnies had a great day too, as they put Arrogancae down by four goals to nil, in their biggest league win for this campaign. This might not have been a vintage Arrogancae lineup, but
Nurlan Ablaev's craft to collect a brace with nonetheless substantial.
Aitykul Zaripbekov and
Vishnu Tallapaka scored the other two goals, with the visitors' Marcelo Iván Azcurra sustaining a minor ankle injury towards the finish.
Grilled International were however dismantled 2-5 by Greece's Ghisa United International, whose Yemeni left winger Yaser Obad opened and closed the scoring.
Fausto Perono and
Tommy Dongelmans's goals in the middle were mere aberrations in a sea of Ghisa dominance, and International's largest consolation was that it wouldn't matter with both New Vikings and The Sun men suffering three-goal margin defeats to their IV.2 opponents as well.
