Beyond Titanium

Grilled Birds enjoyed a terrific second day in the Trophy of Legends, as they strung together three consecutive wins to end it in 260th position, keeping their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive. It wasn't a given by any means, and Spanish VI.797 champs DUKEOFEARL ran them very close in the opening game, with Sebas Majà matching Hwang Teck Fu's double; this left Hein Thiha Pyae Ko's 26th minute close-up conversion from a free-kick to confirm the 3-2 result.

It was the Prince's turn to take centerstage against Dutch IV.38 club Grasmat united, with Ananda Hettiarachchi draining a beautiful ninth minute strike to Cornelus Casteels's top left corner, before completing Grilled's tally in the 86th minute. There would almost be a hat-trick too as he drove it barely wide immediately afterwards, which allowed Belgian winger Gavin Patteeuw to reply on the counter for 6-3 at the end.

Italian IV.4 entrants Titanium would be Grilled's final test of the day, and they were not far off grabbing a point either, with it finishing 4-3 to the Birds amidst heavy rainfall. Titanium demonstrated great resilience in notching three equalizers, and for a while it felt like Casimiro Benhar Noccioli's 73rd minute deflection off a luckless Genki Nagano might have broken Grilled's spirit. Not so for Chad Thach, as he took the match by the scruff with a skilful sidefoot past transfer-listed Italian goalkeeper Manuel Bertuletti.

This left Grilled Birds with very real hopes of finishing in the top sixty-four, and Tian Yonghang confirmed that the team would be going for it. "What else would we be here for?"

It was quite a good day for the other Grilled clubs too, with Farmer Bunnies resting at 369th after three more draws. Two of them - against VC Mestreech (Belgium V.157) and Neufahrner Kickers (German V.52) would end goalless and largely eventless, save for a late yellow for Guan Ming Kum in the former match, after he tried a little too hard to leave his mark - as he had yesterday.

The second fixture against French IV.41 participants AS Menou would at least see the ball in the net twice, first by Alexi Durand from a 33rd minute free-kick, after Toh Eng Guang had lumped it well over in the 14th. The Buns' hopes appeared faint as AS Menou retained possession well, but Ong Li Jing would spot Lee Yau Tong embarking on a rare foray from central defence 72 minutes in, and Lee would manage an excellent half-volley against Swiss goalkeeper Paris Länzlinger.

International claimed four points with a win and draw, with victory arriving first versus Spanish V.120 outfit Heldens FC. Redhuan bin Mohd Aleshahfezan put up a Man of the Match performance from central midfield, as he struck a first-half brace, and could easily have had two more. He would get sent off in the 87th minute, four minutes after Etienne Binder's straight red for instigating a pushing match, but International cruised to the final whistle 3-0 up if two men down.

That left Mohsen Zeynali as an emergency replacement for Redhuan for the next match against Dutch V.83 side Yellow Snow FC, with Khosrov Danelyan taking Binder's right wing position. Remond Bergervoet stepped up with two clinical finishes by the 33rd minute, but the Snows levelled up by half-time. The second half would be the same story following initial strikes from Leri Bezhanishvili and Ghanem Ben Mimoun, with local Number Eight Frederik Bongaarts tying it up 4-4 on Kenny Anema's intelligent reverse ball.

London Eagles FC of the Polish V.65 were up next, and it would be a 1-2 defeat for International, who broke themselves against the Eagles' 4-5-1. The Poles rode high on an Ambroży Madejski poach off a tricky free-kick and Ionuţ Melinteanu's sniping right before half-time, with Egidius van der Duin finally putting it past former Trinidad & Tobago youth international goalie Anuraag Jawadekar in the 63rd minute, on a Redhuan assist.

This has Grilled International currently in 714th position in the Heroes of 2017 Trophy, and Chua Jun Long urged his teammates to keep their heads up for the remaining two fixtures. "As professionals, we should take every game seriously."
