Mixed Fortunes
The final day of the Legends and Heroes tournaments passed without too much untowardness, with Grilled Birds and Grilled International finishing up with one win in three, and Farmer Bunnies going one better.
Florus Romijn was the only bright spot for the Birds when they lost 2-7 to Danish fifth division side FC Winther, before a revival against Swiss sixth division göhnhard kickers.
Islom Davlatov put Grilled back level after göhnhard had held their lead into half-time, and
Hoàng Trung Quá then popped up with an unlikely two goals in a messy second half, for a 5-3 final score.
Neeraj Muthyala's yellow meant that he would be suspended for the last match against Spanish club rubinense, but his 40 year-old replacement
Tian Yonghang would prove that he had lost little of his exquisite touch, arcing a wonderful volley home in the 15th minute to give the Birds the lead. rubinese were too strong towards the end, however, and Grilled wound up 1-3 losers.
Bunnies opened with a 2-3 loss to Argentine club Los Colomeros II, whose Mexican forward Dadman Rastagari was simply too quick to handle on his two goals.
Kwek Yun Jie put the Buns back in contention with a 78th minute counter, but it was all
Vivian Grubenmann could do, to prevent Rastagari from getting his hat-trick from thence on.
Enzo Paolo Panzarino would settle a tight affair against Polish sixth division side BUFIZA with a neat 24th minute winner, in a match peppered by close shaves from a disbelieving
Liderhan Kadyr. They then closed on a winning note, with
Jon Benson and
Brendan Leung striking early on to secure a 2-1 against another Polish club in Muzykanci.
Buns' inability to make the most of their chances saw a petition from their supporters to revive their interest in former Birds youth legend Fang Tong Rong, who had moved for just S$3 million to Spanish Division Six club 888sport Nelson's FC barely a fortnight ago. "For the right price, I don't think it's unrealistic - and by god, do we need the output!" one fan exclaimed.
Lastly, Grilled International started out by being shut out by Zürich side Mercatone Uno-Bianchi F.C., whose all-action Finnish skipper Aki Riepula was a terror on the left. They would then enjoy a walkover against SlowLifeTeam of the Polish seventh division, before falling 1-4 to Argentina's Club Atletico Futbol Club.
Soo Kiong Yau got the consolation from a free-kick, as veteran Italian striker Antonio Leuchi dominated for Atletico.
