Torres Taken Down
Terkel Forlorn
Danish midfielder
Terkel Borup would leave the Birds with some happy memories at least, after it was announced that he would move on right before Grilled's Cup match against F.Torres FC.
The 21 year-old display true professionalism in not letting his impending departure affect his performance, and served up an all-action display in the middle of the park that may yet give Grilled reason to regret their decision to sell. His telling pass in the 13th minute created panic in the home side's defence, leading to a blunder that Jie Siong gobbled up.
Sid, featuring in left midfield, a position that he has not been known to fill, then became living proof that a good footballing brain fits in anywhere. Twice, he timed his offside-trap breaking runs wonderfully, to get a double by the 18th minute.
Hjortlind, after garnering a booking due to his usual combative style, then availed himself of a goal from a sweeping pass by Borup, who himself got on the scoresheet in the very next minute thanks to Bukhari's selflessness.
Sid missed the boat with his 51st minute
free-kick, which sailed wide of F.Torres goalie bin Mat Ail, but also wide of his post. The hosts displayed some steel in holding Grilled off for about an hour, but finally crumpled again in the 78th minute as Hjortlind's carelessly-hit cross clipped a defender and rolled into the net.
Rightback Mohd Shawal bin Sheikh Ibrahim had seen enough, and he deliberately blasted the ball high onto the roof of the stadium in the 80th minute, a move that was popular with the crowd but not the referee, who immediately put his hand in his pocket for a card.
Siu-Cheung and Jie Siong then added a couple of goals, but the most meaningful one was Borup's, as Mohd Firdaus generously lifted the ball to him on a two-on-one break. The departing Dane made no mistake, and raised his hands as his teammates swarmed him in celebration.
