Grilled surprised many in the local football fraternity by poaching local teenager Lim Chuan Jing from lower division club FlamerZ for a tribunal fee of S$70 000. The club had not bought locally since their earliest days, preferring a mix of homegrown youth and ready-made imports.

Lim, an uncompromising midfielder, was none the wiser about this unexpected honour, but he pledged to dedicate himself to his new club. "I'll not forget the chance that Grilled gave me to prove myself, and I'll repay it in kind."
