Safwan Enters KRIEF
Grilled Birds' 18 year-old academy graduate Safwan Nasir al Din scored a free transfer to Israeli sixth division club F.C KRIEF after nearly five weeks of looking, after he convinced Yehonatan Budnik to take a punt on him. Safwan should have time to bed in, seeing as to how F.C KRIEF were founded just yesterday, with him being only their third transfer after Győző Pap and Marin Cocoş.
A relative latecomer to football, Safwan only started playing semi-seriously at fourteen under the influence of his cousins, and indeed never expected to get into the Chicken Wings after being rejected by the youth setup of Division Three outfit JR Football Club. Tham Beng Li saw something in the youngster, however, and he would have a solid enough career with the Wings, even bagging a hat-trick against Swedish side de döda bävrarna in a 3-2 win, a couple of months back.
That moment of glory, Safwan soon found, had not raised his stock high enough for clubs to take notice, and it was only after much personal effort that he came into contact with Budnik at KRIEF. Tham would lend his support, describing Safwan as possessing impeccable fundamentals. "He's not super-gifted or anything like that, but he knows how to move about in midfield."
