Strong Finish
Grilled wrapped up the Supporters Week Tournament with three straight wins, to end up with a repeat of last edition's 7-1-2 record. Even that looked in question for a while, as Costa Rican Primera División club Hannibal FC challenged Grilled throughout in a test of wills, before
Lee Lee Hao won it 4-3 with five minutes to go.
The Birds' first hat-trick of the competition was then claimed by
Tian Yonghang against former Hong Kong national cupwinners MOTU in a rollicking 6-2 win, before a solid 4-1 against Dutch Division Five side FC Baxie.
"It was a fine way to close up." Grilled right winger
Wong Ping Shun, who looks to be finding his feet again, commented. "We were flowing at times. Hopefully this carries over to the new season."
The Bunnies nearly did it too, but had to settle for two wins and a loss, with Jeff Kaisen pulling off a one-nil for German sixth division club Viking Theresvar in their last fixture. Before that, there had been a very encouraging
Enzo Paolo Panzarino hat-trick in a 4-0 against Icelandic Division Four side Hasler FC, and then a 2-0 against W. Kings of the Swiss sixth division.
Bunnies first-choice goalie
Vivian Grubenmann declared himself content with the protected he had received. "I think we have a top-quality defence going on here. There are going to be more than a few clean sheets forthcoming!"
