Belle Good
Grilled's third foray in the Supporter Week Trophy began with a 1-4 drubbing by French champions Bellesfeuilles, but there was in truth little that the Birds could be dissatisfied about, as the yellow-and-black stripes were simply better in all aspects. Still, it was galling for
Wong Ping Shun to have a tame 17th minute penalty saved - and converted into a counterattacking goal - but Grilled would at least mop up messily from a corner, off the chest of
Clark Won.
Clément Meyer was realistic in his assessment of the fixture, even as he got a few jerseys signed for his nephew. "We're some steps off the top tier of squads, nowadays. Bellesfeuilles were not at their absolute best either, but they have a philosophy in place."
Grilled did then let it out against Swiss Division Six side
ADTC, with
Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim leading the club to a 3-1 win with a double. They then went riot against Dutch Division Six renaissance, who were outmatched in a 10-1 thumping that somehow failed to yield any hat-tricks.
Team Bern-Nord, also from Switzerland, if from the fifth division, then managed a see-sawing 5-5 draw, in which the best and worst of Grilled went on display.
Rinor Isufi suggested that the worst was behind him by linking up effectively while bagging a brace, but laughable defending allowed German attacking midfielder Andy Fürstenmühl all too much room to exhibit his dribbling talents.
Low-scoring tactical grinds were the order of the day for the Bunnies in contrast, as they interspersed 2-0 wins against NK Rudar Idr`je (Slovenian Division Six) and Sudraba Lode (Latvian Division Five) with narrow losses to Fc Universitatea Cluj 2007 (Romanian Division Five) and OBB Koko (German Division Six).
Sikong Darong, still on crutches, praised
Enzo Paolo Panzarino for his consistent output that saw him accounting for half of the team's goal output, while admonishing
Tham Leng Teck for his uncharacteristic lapse in discipline that saw him collect two wholly avoidable yellows in the Cluj defeat.
"And Tham was playing so well then, too." Sikong complained. "He had Zitman in his pocket, then he gets sent off, and Zitman hits two. A waste."
