Woon Vénérated
32 year-old midfielder
Woon Shun An will now be based in the south of France, after Les Vénérateurs offered near S$1.5 million for his services. Capped for the national team at all levels, Woon professed to be up for the new challenge, with his 181st appearance for the Birds against Charis FC on Sunday proving to be his Grilled swansong.
Woon had looked to join Chow Ying Lee in moving to another local club, with newly-promoted II.3 contestants Asparagus cited as his likely destination. The French fifth division side would convince Woon to pick them over both Asparagus and Bosnian Division Five suitors F.C. Klementina, however, despite their reputation for turning over players who do not make an immediate splash.
An obvious regret for Woon was not being able to start against his boyhood side Blackburn Rovers Fan, where he had risen from the youth ranks before doing two seasons in Poland. He chalked it down to fate.
"Well, I could have requested that they go through the transfer a few days later, but on second thought, there was no real point to it." Woon shrugged. "When you gotta go, you gotta go. I'll just catch it on television."
