Ong So Long
Striker Ong Kok Long, just turned seventeen and without doubt the best trainee of his batch at the Rancher Rabbits, settled on a transfer to German Division Eight club Fossil5 today. Though some have grumbled that Ong could have made a more prestigious move, the precocious talent himself expressed only excitement.
"Fossil5 have a fine record of daring to start youngsters." the clearly well-researched Ong explained. "With Jérôme Machin and Lutz Griecher leaving, head coach Andrija Vasiljević can put me in play immediately, which was exactly what I wanted. I told the trainers here that I wouldn't leave the Bunnies only to wait on a bench."
Vasiljević confirmed that Ong was scheduled to start in their Chilean friendly against Thinlizzy AFC on Wednesday, assuming all goes well. "Ong is quite the specimen." he noted. "I've seldom seen a player so young, yet with such a developed sense for football. If there is any complaint, it would have to be that he's currently a little vanilla."
The fee, just north of S$380000, was thought to be slightly on the low end, but Ong's main advisor Tong Han Kong wasn't about to quibble over a few dollars.
"We had two interested parties from the Romanian seventh division - CSA 1947 Steaua and FC STELUTA 86 - who were very serious, and then there was a Hunan side, truth aging, whom I felt could have been a good fit, if only due to familiarity with the language." Tong started.
"It was not an easy choice, believe me, but I do think Ong made the right one. He was the centerpiece of a very good Rabbits team, but still probably hadn't reached anything like his potential with us - not to put his teammates or opponents down. Hopefully his future employers can get the best out of him. As the fans here say - he's so good, they almost named him twice!"
