Chew Chase
Italian Division Seven club A. C. Milan 1899 snagged a tasty bargain today, as they obtained the services of promising Chicken Wings attacker Chew Wee Tong for just S$30750.
The multitalented Chew had gotten several inquiries from interested local sides before officially graduating from the academy, but The Cutting Edge's early offer was quickly trumped by Embajadores FC (Argentine Division Six) and AC Suolistomadot (Finnish Division Four).
The real wrangling was between A. C. Milan 1899 and Red Tornado (Czech Division Six) though, which was resolved after several faxes.
Wings scout Mok Feng De, who ranked Chew as among the top five players he has discovered, expressed his astonishment at the low transfer figure. "They don't come much more complete than him." Mok said of his 17 year-old protege. "Chew's equally at home on the wing or up front, and is pretty darn good either way."
To Milan's credit, they wasted no time in handing Chew his senior debut, in midfield against ArmataRossa in a home friendly. It turned out a harsh introduction to the realities of professional football, with four players retiring injured, and Chew missing a one-on-one chance in a 1-2 defeat.
