newbies 0 - 3 Grilled
Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 2204 at
the newbies ground today.
Per Ivarsson was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Tonny van Grunsven and
Florian Winkler. A 2-5-3 alignment was the formation of choice for newbies. Lineup: Caamaño - Ruifang, Long Huat - Wong, Hatara, Dan, Quong, bin Sulaiman - Hui Rong, Kang Cheng, bin Che Rusli.
Grilled decided to use a 4-5-1 set up. The following players took the field: Tian Han - Ping Shun, Shun An, Jing Wei, Madaini - 福泉 (Fuquan) , Bellamoli, Aik Jia, bin Mohd Kassim, Ying Lee - Bacelar.
Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Grilled. At 9 minutes played,
R. bin Che Rusli came in from the right with the intention of giving newbies the lead, but his rocket of a shot rattled the crossbar. With the clock showing 10 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of Grilled resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by
D. Bacelar in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high. newbies's
I. bin Sulaiman got himself booked for a foul. The home crowd breathed a collective sigh of relief when
L. Aik Jia was unable to put the ball in the net after his show of skill down the left 35 minutes into the match. He was seen beating the pitch in frustration at missing such a good chance to give his team the lead! Halftime score was 0 - 0. newbies enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 53 percent of possession.
46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
D. Bacelar gave
L. Wan Kang a quick hug as he left the field.
Q. Madaini was the new captain of Grilled - handed the armband by the departing player. Grilled had a great opportunity to score following a counterattack after 59 minutes, but
C. Ying Lee's shot from the left sailed high over the bar. 62 minutes in, newbies's
C. Long Huat received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. The terraces were silenced after 74 minutes when Grilled's
P. Bellamoli put the guests ahead 0 - 1, following an attack on the right.
C. Ying Lee knocked one home from a counterattack down the right wing, making the score 0 - 2 after 82 minutes. Content with how the game was proceeding, the Grilled coach let
W. Ross replace
Q. Madaini after 85 minutes. As the captain was no longer on the pitch,
M. bin Mohd Kassim took over the role of being the Grilled captain. With 86 minutes played,
M. bin Mohd Kassim nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar. Grilled caught their opponents out with a clever counterattack down the right wing 88 minutes into the match.
M. bin Mohd Kassim was able to finish off the move - 0 - 3.
Z. Jing Wei left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 89 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead.
G. Dorogan was the replacement. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
W. Shun An from Grilled a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 89 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by newbies, with 54 percent of the ball.
newbies's top performer was clearly
J. Caamaño.
C. Long Huat was a disappointment, however. Grilled's best player was
W. Tian Han. However,
G. Dorogan made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 0 - 3.
