Fon Phones Out
There was a quiet farewell for former Player of the Season
Alex Fonseca, as the 37 year-old Portuguese midfielder concluded his six season long association with the Birds with a S$30000 move to Pakistani Division Four side ZIF. Rodskov Forest Føroyar (Faroe Islands Division Four) and Olimpic Maalula (Syrian Division Three) were in it too for the immensely reliable Fonseca, a sign that age had hardly diminished his draw.
Head coach
Niculae Stanca made it known that the club had offered Fonseca, who will keep his number at ZIF, another one-year extension, but he had declined in favour of new playing experience. "For his signing fee, he was undoubtedly dollar-for-dollar one of our best servicemen. ZIF are getting a terrific option, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if he makes ten or more appearances there too."
Stanca moreover revealed that the club had been in contact with 33 year-old former youth player Hu Banghan about the possibility of him returning from Portugal as a reserve winger, but stepped aside after newly-founded Division Four side Westral FC expressed their interest. This will be Hu's eighth transfer in a long career, with three of them exceeding a million dollars in value, and he confirmed that he was glad to be home for the first time after leaving BBrookies as a rookie.
