Grilled 1 - 3 McLaren

ear skies welcomed the 5663 spectators who had made their way to The Cooking Pot. Gerhardt Dunlop was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Teodoro Eckert and Marko Celent. Grilled tactics involved an interesting 2-5-3 combination. They fielded: Noubaryan - Bakhtiar, Awyong - Yong Yau, Gudivada, Wee Li, Adabala, Boon Boon - Azhari, Da Teck, 恒才 (Hengcai).

A 5-3-2 alignment was the formation of choice for McLaren. The following players had been chosen: Ramos - Molina, Stenlund, Tuteleers, Gutiérrez, Quiroz - Paz, Montero, Nuhbe - Säuberli, Padilla.

Grilled saw most attack opportunities on the wings. Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for McLaren on this day. Paúl Montero came close to putting the visiting team one up 11 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but Hovaness Noubaryan managed to tip the ball to a corner. Making his way up the middle 26 minutes into the match, Neo Da Teck almost managed to squeeze a goal past the visitors' keeper, but the alert Álvaro Ramos blocked it to keep the score level. 0 - 1 was the score with 27 minutes played, after McLaren's Quirin Säuberli cut through the central defence and chipped home a goal. Many in the crowd felt the referee was being too lenient when he only showed McLaren's Johan Stenlund a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 29 minutes into the game. The corner kick from Hilal Bakhtiar">Hilal Bakhtiar set Colby Awyong up perfectly, as he soared to meet the ball, heading it in for 1 - 1. Hilal Bakhtiar">Hilal Bakhtiar was very close to giving Grilled the lead with an ingenious free kick routine 33 minutes into the match, but the ball just grazed the bar. 1 - 1 was the halftime score. This half belonged to McLaren, who controlled the ball 52 percent of the time.

46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Neo Da Teck gave Aden Abu-Abdel a quick hug as he left the field. The guests almost went up by a goal after 60 minutes when Vinicio Padilla came through and shot from the right. The ball bounced harmlessly off the post, though. A badly positioned defensive formation on a free kick after 72 minutes led to McLaren's Evren Nuhbe giving the visitors the lead 1 - 2. With 75 minutes played, Aden Abu-Abdel went down in a suspected penalty situation after a challenge from the visitors' right fullback, but the referee, having a good line of sight, signalled to keep playing. Hilal Bakhtiar">Hilal Bakhtiar missed a penalty after 81 minutes that would have put the teams level. Leonardo Delgado was called on to replace McLaren's Orlando Molina after 84 minutes following a nasty collision. With 85 minutes played, McLaren put themselves up 1 - 3 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was Edgar Quiroz. After 88 minutes, Grilled switched Colby Awyong with Slavcho Tzonkov, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch. With 88 minutes played, the Grilled coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. Walter Ross came on, Hilal Bakhtiar">Hilal Bakhtiar had to leave the fray. The Grilled captaincy was handed to Hovaness Noubaryan. The forty-five minutes were dominated by McLaren, with an impressive 53 percent possession of the ball.

Grilled's top performer was clearly Slavcho Tzonkov. However, Hovaness Noubaryan made a disastrous appearance. McLaren's best player was Paúl Montero. On the other hand, Johnny Paz's play was disheartening. The match ends 1 - 3.
