Grilled 5 - 4 Flames

e to an all-day shower, 36908 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at The Cooking Pot. Ermanno Ferracioli was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Eugen Velicu and Gisbert Gijsbertsen. Grilled decided to use a 4-4-2 set up. Lineup: Dias Paes - Zywczyn, Lik-Tsun, Árva, Talib - Spirig, Branbilla, MacKinnon, Han Kok - Rotteveel, bin Ku Zainol.

Flames decided to use a 3-4-3 set up. Starters: Baaijens - Arrott, Cocksedge, Wendig - Cereo, bin Mohamad Nawi, Sukhoruchenkov, Feinbier - Yiu Po, Al-Rasheed, Marquart.

Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Grilled on this day. Flames displayed their ability to play creatively. The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to Sylweriusz Zywczyn, but the Grilled player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0! Quah Han Kok slipped and slithered in the wet grass. His usual rapid runs were nowhere to be seen today. With 26 minutes played, the visitors could have scored the tying goal after Micha Marquart came through the middle, but his kick went wide. With 30 minutes played, Grilled put themselves up 2 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to Maikel Rotteveel, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home. Micha Marquart nearly reduced 37 minutes into the game, but a splendid one-handed save by Valdir Dias Paes put a stop to the attempt coming in from the right flank. 2 - 0 was the halftime score. Flames enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 53 percent of possession.

Maikel Rotteveel really should have scored when he was chosen by fate to confront a wide open goal following a great play by Matthias Branbilla after a corner. Things were going to get worse for the visitors. Subri bin Ku Zainol squirmed himself through their central defence after 57 minutes, bringing the lead to 3 - 0. 64 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as Matthias Branbilla dashed through, knocking home 4 - 0 for Grilled. Many in the crowd felt the referee was being too lenient when he only showed Grilled's Maikel Rotteveel a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 79 minutes into the game. Han Lik-Tsun got left behind when Flames's Hu Yiu Po made a sudden pull forward after 81 minutes, finishing off with a swift strike. 4 - 1! After 82 minutes Hu Yiu Po made a speedy advance and dropped the ball to Micha Marquart who shuffled it past the keeper. The score was now 4 - 2. The rain made it hard for players like Valentin Sukhoruchenkov to show their technical control of the ball on this soggy day. The visitors got one back when Clifford Cocksedge finished off a pass from the left and scored after 86 minutes. 4 - 3 was the score. 88 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as Nawaz Talib dashed through, knocking home 5 - 3 for Grilled. The visitors replied 89 minutes into the game, scoring the 5 - 4 goal, as Micha Marquart dashed up the middle, easily lobbing the ball over the home team's keeper. The forty-five minutes were dominated by Flames, with an impressive 52 percent possession of the ball.

Most important Grilled player was Quah Han Kok. Maikel Rotteveel turned in a dismal performance, however. Most important Flames player was Omer Abbas Al-Rasheed. Clifford Cocksedge on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 5 - 4.
