Bona To Pick
Reversing years of defensive neglect, Grilled Birds brought in German fullback
Fabian Bona for a modest outlay of six million Singapore dollars. The twenty-year old got his bearings three seasons ago as a trainee at hometown Division Four team Honsa. He soon left Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for the marshes of Tartumaa, Estonia.
Bona developed his game as he was entrusted with different positions in his tenure with new employers Miki Hiir, having being tried out both in the middle and out wide in league and cup games. Bona sees himself primarily as a central defender though, and Grilled got the nod on that understanding. "Fabian is a very strong, very solid lad for his age," coach
Luis Alcántara, himself a practised defender, said. "With all due respect to my playing colleagues, our defence is little changed from the club's Division Four days. The old boys are cresting thirty, and in the S-League some fresh legs will help a lot. Fabian will have to be ready to do some extra running for me too." the jovial Alcántara joked.
Upstanding sweeper
Lan Tuan-Mu, who concedes his first-team rights to Fabian, will still see extensive action as Bona's backups and in the Cup and friendlies. In the meantime,
Fabian Bona will run out for Grilled in the fourth round of the Singapore Cup against Northern United on Wednesday.
Grilled are understood to have fended off interest from Division Four FC-Mittelerde from Bona's homeland, and U.S.A Division Two league leaders Shaolin Landfills. Grilled had chased after Dane Tino Ravnsbo and Norwegian Ørjan Ree too, but Danish side *ROSSONERI* and German-based HPU Sea Warriors signed them respectively.
