It is no secret that Grilled Birds head coach
Qi Haupai is a great admirer of flamboyant Latin football, and at time was this more apparant than when he today announced that he had taken on another midfielder from Spain.
"I intend to create a European nucleus for the side." Haupai said. "Our goalie and defenders are all local and have been performing solidly so far, but good Singaporean midfielders are nowhere to be found for reasonable prices. Moreover, in my own opinion our native players have some catching up to do in the playmaking department, as there are very few naturals around."
Machado, 20, was predictable when he spoke of forging an association with Sole. "We are quite similar players who love attacking and run a lot. I am sure we will know each other quite well." Machado started his career when he was taken on from trials at Maccabi Dagostar, a Division 5 Spanish club, before moving to Sam Podestar, another Division 5 team, for S$170000 after a single season. As with the rest of Grilled Birds imports, he did not figure much in his old team and was offered for S$84000 after a dip in form, for which Haupai gladly snapped him up.
