Singapore 2 - 2 Grilled
e weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 61370 had shown up at The Dome Of The White Lion for the match.
Francisco Juncal was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Lutz-Dieter Andrae and
Dominique Helfenberger. Singapore decided to use a 4-3-3 set up. Lineup: Xiaolun - Shiu-Fai, Jie Kok, Khoi-Khoa, Kok-Peng - Gustavsson, bin Din, Min Rong - Rodostoglou, Gingold, bin Md Johadi.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Grilled. The following players took the field: Abed-Sulaiman - Zywczyn, Fredgård, Bona - van Liere, Spirig, Kek-Tjiang, Paullin, Han Kok - Martinsson, Kadak.
Singapore immediately set off using their skill at pressing their opponents. Grilled decided to play creatively. The terraces were silenced after 8 minutes when Grilled's
Shen Kek-Tjiang put the guests ahead 0 - 1, following an attack on the right. Singapore pressed their opponents, causing the game to be a bit of a stalemate at times. After 21 minutes of play,
Syamsul bin Md Johadi equalised for Singapore after an elegant attack from the right. It wasn't a pretty goal, but the free kick by
Vaios Rodostoglou after 27 minutes somehow found its way past the keeper. Singapore takes the lead, 2-1! After 29 minutes, the visitors evened the score after
Jaan Kadak made it through the middle and struck home the 2 - 2 goal. Halftime score was 2 - 2. The forty-five minutes were dominated by Grilled, with an impressive 55 percent possession of the ball.
With 48 minutes played
Vaios Rodostoglou almost gave the home side the lead with an unexpected free kick set up, but the visitors'
Ahmed Abed-Sulaiman was onto it, grabbing the would be breakthrough ball. Down the middle came
Fabian Bona, making a fantastic play that nearly had Grilled take the lead after 56 minutes, but
Chew Xiaolun preserved the tie. The visitors could have taken the lead from a free kick after 65 minutes, if it wasn't for the jaw-dropping save by
Chew Xiaolun. Grilled had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 75 minutes in when
Shen Kek-Tjiang came up alone against
Chew Xiaolun who managed a block. Singapore created a good opportunity to score 85 minutes into the match when
Vaios Rodostoglou's hooked ball from the left created a scuffle in front of the goal, and the visitors' defenders had a hard time clearing the ball. This half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 56 percent of the time.
Most important Singapore player was
Chew Xiaolun.
Darren Gingold was a disappointment, however. Grilled's best player was
Shen Kek-Tjiang. On the other hand,
Quah Han Kok's play was disheartening. The match ends 2 - 2.
