Rajah 2 - 3 Grilled
500 spectators arrived at Rajah XI Arena, where weather conditions were pretty good for football.
Carlos Heimes was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Michael Schillinger and
Daniel Turturicã. Rajah decided to use a 3-4-3 set up. They fielded: Larsson - bin Abd Karim, Lifländer, Jiménez - Nie Jin, Bloxham, Sánchez, Quoc-Bao - Cheng Aik, bin Minsi, bin Musa.
Grilled had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation. The following players had been chosen: Dias Paes - Zywczyn, Lik-Tsun, Talib, Bona - Edmond, Spirig, MacKinnon, Han Kok, Paullin - Rotteveel.
Rajah seemed to prefer attacking in the middle. Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Grilled. Grilled's
Lorenz Paullin showed his experience after 2 minutes, as he expertly set himself up to take advantage of a rebound off the crossbar, but his shot was tipped harmlessly out of the way. Grilled's
Nawaz Talib managed to lose the defenders as he came down the right side and scored, putting the visitors ahead, 0 - 1. With the clock showing 25 minutes played,
Mohd Ariffin bin Abd Karim equalised for Rajah after curling a free kick around the defensive wall to make the score 1 - 1. 34 minutes in, Rajah's
Ma Quoc-Bao received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. 38 minutes in, Rajah's
Mohd Ariffin bin Abd Karim received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. It was 1 - 1 at the break. Rajah held the ball, with a clear 57 percent of possession.
With 80 minutes played, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending.
Lorenz Paullin put the ball away for 1 - 2.
Quah Han Kok increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley shot away on a pass from the right. 1 - 3. It took several tries, but Rajah managed to break through on the left after 85 minutes, getting the ball to
Sim Nie Jin who easily reduced the lead to make the score 2 - 3. Grilled's defence sent a ball soaring up the middle on a beautiful counterattack, but
Quah Han Kok's finish was met by the reaching hands of the keeper. The home crowd cheered when, after 90 minutes,
Han Lik-Tsun's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day. Rajah enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 57 percent of possession.
Rajah's best player was
Mohd Syamsuri bin Musa. On the other hand,
José Antonio Jiménez's play was disheartening. Grilled's top performer was clearly
Valdir Dias Paes.
Fabian Bona was a disappointment, however. The match ends 2 - 3.
