Ong, Li To Europe
Two 17 year-old Chicken Wings alumni left on free transfers today, the first being striker Ong Chao Woon, to Polish VI.37 club WS Browar. Although Browar head coach Karol Kądziołka has a reputation for moving players on quickly, their stay has usually been a benefit. Tunisian teenager Hassen Sellami would be an object example, in lifting the Ireland Consolation Cup on his debut with Highbell Utd just last week, even scoring in the fourteenth minute to boot.
Browar are not completely strangers to Chinese players either, with Guangdong native Meng Yuen having recently arrived from LongMa FC as a fullback. "It's not like I'm here for a front-desk job." Ong said. "Football is a universal language."
Li Han Dong would fulfil his wish of turning professional some days before his eighteenth birthday, with the defender taken on by Italian VII.551 outfit Tutti Matty FC as only their second-ever transfer, right after Spanish trainee Ignacio Ilasaga. Wings scout Mok Feng De rated Ong as the more exciting to watch, but Li as possibly having the better environment to settle in as a regular.
"WS Browar are a tough place to make a mark at." Mok explained. "As for Li at Tutti, they're quite new, so I daresay there's less competition. If he works hard, I don't see why he can't grow with their squad."
