There would be no three-peat for Grilled Birds in the Singapore Cup, and nary a whimper in the S-League either, six defeats in the last eight league fixtures nearly condemning the Birds to relegation.
Wickén Jubilant
Big-thinking Division Four club Kampong Dreamers became the first team in a long, long time to get the better of Grilled in cup competition, achieving the feat through an unanswered Bengt Wickén penalty.
It was a dagger to the heart for Grilled's expectant fans, who saw much bigger things coming from the current crop. There would be no Masters next season as the club were mired in mid-table mediocrity, but there was still a bit of history available for the taking.
The Birds became Singapore's first ever Masters match winners along with Winning Eleven, as they overcame Malta's Mellieha F.C. 4-1 in a memorable night at The Cooking Pot. They later disposed of Lebanon's team_psp handily 9-0 despite playing away, before losing 1-3 in the third round to Denmark's El Torros Gigante.
Though a step down from the excitement of consecutive Singapore Cup finals, Grilled took time off to get their hands on the third of Singapore's Big Four trophies. With two Singapore Cups and a Singapore Community Shield under their belt, they added the Singapore Community Cup to the cabinet as part of Team Geylang, who won it a record third time.
To round it all off, Grilled met Chinablack in an important match for the third season running, this time coming from two down to stay in the S-League with a 6-4 final score in their qualifier.
