Farewell Færøerne
No Comparison
In the end,
Djan Bacelar kept to his word in allowing
Kalki Parvathaneni and
Chu Xin Lee to start on the wings; it probably made next to no difference coming up against a Kongeriget Danmark side going through the motions, as the Birds romped to an easy 6-0, pummeling their opponents from start to finish.
Kongeriget Danmark - referred to as the Færøerne by their support - had absolutely nothing to play for, and it showed. Nineteen year-old Henning Hvannastein would captain them today, and was probably the only amongst them to give a good account of himself. Otherwise, they would follow Fabian Stuzmann's instructions to press only half-heartedly, which would hardly be enough.
It did work for about twenty-six minutes, in which
Ang Leong Kum's drive from the edge of the box would have gone in, had it not been for a freak pothole.
Rinor Isufi's frustration at not having fouls called his way would lead to a booking for applied dissent, but he would be mollified by a generous advantage played on his next possession.
Kalki Parvathaneni benefitted, sprinting past the uncertain David Freiherr to poach the opener.
Isufi would double Grilled's lead two minutes on, reaching
Chu Xin Lee's cross ahead of Mats von Campenhausen, and the lively Chu would force a magic save out of the Kongeriget Danmark goalie a little later.
Yuta Nakakita converted from the corner, though, and is rapidly cementing his reputation as a danger in set-piece situations.
Kongeriget Danmark weren't sweating it, that was for sure, and there was much good-natured banter as the teams filed out for half-time. It was all pretty dreary up until the nour mark, when Bacelar decided to reward
Dante Tran and
Kohei Okuya for their diligence in training, with substitute appearances.
Tran would take all of eight minutes to make the most of it, as he swung - a bit wildly - at
Ang Leong Kum's rushed pass, coming in at knee height. It would clatter straight off Hvannastein's kneecap, effecting a massive change in direction that had Doolaeghe wrongfooted. Whatever, Tran wasn't going to let that spoil his moment, as he celebrated like a man possessed.
The fifth goal would come in the 73rd minute, as a series of neat triangular passes whittled down the opposing defence's resolve. Helge Peter von Nordheim-Gehr was slow to recognize that
Mohammad Ramli Saliman had faked a pass, and the abrupt change in rhythm was enough to let Saliman continue his hot streak.
Last but not least, after Mats von Campenhausen's persistent fouling on Chu had set Grilled up with an indirect free-kick on the right flank, Ang would pounce on the wayward pass to earn a sixth. Not that it would be of much significance, of course, and referee Ran Biaopen had no qualms about ending the match on the dot.
