Seven Gates of Hell
Seng-Huat Off
A huge attendance for a friendly of over 7000 witnessed Cypriot Division Two leaders Gate 7 smash the Birds at the appropriately named HeLL, as the Grilled reserves had nothing against a Gate 7 starting eleven that would not look out of place in Singapore's second division.
The difference in standards quickly revealed itself, and Grilled shifted accordingly into ultra defensive mode after a few minutes of play. This simply delayed the inevitable, as Gate 7 wingback Mattias Eddahl came in on the outside to hammer the opener in at the near post.
Ulf Hergren swiftly made it two-nil a minute later, and it could have been three in three minutes had Swedish forward Torbjörn Norrquist kept his effort down. It didn't matter as Norrquist would get a brace by the end of the match, after Charles Balmer's 37th minute grounder.
It was a generally bad-tempered game, as Gate 7's players reacted to what they felt was overzealous tackling by Grilled, and Ulf Hergren and Fred Britton were both booked for retaliation.
Weng Seng-Huat received his marching orders in the 79th minute, after his second yellow, and Wiebe van den Brekel took the opportunity to add a sixth.
Bao-Tam then was beaten for the seventh time as Adamantios Asmeniadis struck it cleanly on the run, before Gate 7's Fred Britton got himself dismissed for a spiteful kick at Borup's shins that had the Dane writhing on the ground. Thankfully, no lasting damage was done.
