Grilled Birds emerged tops in the 13th edition of El Balon del Mundo, but in somewhat underwhelming fashion, as six-time and defending champs Kilimanjaro Sunrise conceded without a fight.
This was perhaps not wholly unexpected, with head coach and national legend Charles Khalfan having announced an overhaul just days ago, in a move that rattled the Tanzanian footballing fraternity; the exact reasons remain unclear, but it remains that former internationals Edward Wanyancha, Beddis Menasri and Lin Quanxing, together with Hungarian winger Géza Vasas, have been hurriedly transferred out on Saturday.
Neither the Birds nor the spectators were aware of what was going on, with the organizers also yet to confirm their stand on refunds.
