Kalki Inducted
Kalki Parvathaneni exchanged his Number Eleven of the Chicken Wings for the Number Thirty-Seven of Grilled Birds today, as the 17 year-old put pen to paper on a four-year contract with the senior side. Always an attention-grabber with his pointed runs from deep, Parvathaneni has shown his chops in man-marking even, which caused many followers of the Wings to pull for his taking the step up.
Parvathaneni's faultless resume included twelve goals in his 36 appearances for the Wings, a very respectable return originating mainly from midfield, and youth mentor Mok Feng De saw in him shades of Chow Ying Lee and Hidde van Liere.
"As a forward, his approach closely resembles Chow, but for the old-timers around here, one can't help but be reminded of van Liere from his other mannerisms." Mok analysed. "He's got the relaxed loping run that almost seems slow, until you realise that he's flying past and can't be stopped."
Djan Bacelar confirmed that he had pencilled Kalki in to make his professional bow in the coming Wednesday's friendly at Polish club Honda Lublin. "I've been hearing some very good things about Kalki from the youth coaches. To be honest, I haven't had the time to attend games or review their tapes lately, so it's up to him to sell himself against Lublin."
Bacelar also took the opportunity to play down reports of Grilled having been tracking Shtiintza's Italian fullback Aimo Milana, who recently moved to Mummer FC for S$3.7 million. "There's nothing in that story."
