Bannockburned
Machado Makes Two
Scots Division Three club FC Bannockburn were repelled by Grilled today, as the Birds maximized their potential both in attack and defence against their grey-and-red clad foes.
Grilled certainly expected a physical contest with the Scots, and had even put in a few days of specialized training just for the friendly. They ended up putting Bannockburn off balance with their willingness to butt heads, and that might have been a factor in
Rushanizam Yunos' opening goal as he shouldercharged the far larger, and also far more surprised, Owen Hunter to get to Stanton's through pass and score.
Bannockburn didn't seem to get their heads around the fact that Grilled were taking the game to them, and Seng-Huat's meaty tackle on Nicky Plommer was met with more incredulity than anger.
There wasn't time for the hosts to adjust as Grilled packed the box for a corner kick, and although
Aznan Noor Yadah's header was met by a defender's chest,
Ricard Machado made sure it crossed the line. The Spaniard would again be in the right place two minutes later, as
Li Ze's cross wasn't stopped by any of the Bannockburn defenders. Alcalde came out, but was beaten once more.
Three goals down, Bannockburn went on the offensive, but were stymied by Grilled's organization. They were clueless when
Johan Dewilde broke down the right in the 70th minute, but the Belgian was hardly a finisher, and dragged his grounder well wide.
Incredibly, Bannockburn's Angus Charteris was the first player to go off injured, after a clash of feet with
Tim Hobson. Alison Dunbar grit his teeth and played through the pain after a fall, while Yunos sent Plommer out too, with a bonecruncher that was correctly called as a bookable offence.
Grilled ended the game four to the good as
Tim Hobson drove the nail into Bannockburn's coffin, after
Chai Yew-Hoe had put another chance just over.
