Vectrex Axed
Li Ze Stakes Claim
Romanian Division Five side VectreX weren't prepared for Grilled's all-new hurt-them-before-they-hurt-us approach to football, and suffered a handful of injuries while losing comprehensively.
Ding Sun-Nee has made a reputation for himself in bombing forward in recent weeks, and he wasn't too far away after a slashing run from his leftback position.
Li Ze went one further in the 31st minute, actually scoring when put through by Dewilde on his flank.
Grilled mixed their attacks up brilliantly, and
Tom Pence was the chosen outlet from the restart. The American winger found plenty of time and space down the left, and had enough smarts to wait for Yunos to peel away before feeding the local forward for the second goal.
Tuan-Mu was next to have a try, before a very bizarre incident in the 40th minute.
Johan Dewilde had turned Jianu Spirea neatly after receiving a pass from Pence, and already released the ball high over the bar when defender Sigursteinn Magnússon propelled himself into both Dewilde and his teammate Spirea. Ironically, Dewilde was none the worse for wear, while Spirea took the brunt of the force and had to come off. Magnússon was, of course, booked.
Tim Hobson put Grilled up to three goals seven minutes after the restart, despite VectreX goalkeeper Ángel Pons' best efforts. Pons bravely decided to stay on after straining a muscle, but he was clearly not at his best, and struggled to get across goal to stop
Li Ze's middling shot a couple of minutes on.
The Birds founds themselves satisfied with four goals, and sat back to defend. VectreX's defenders then found themselves in all sorts of trouble, as Noël Maujean was yellow carded for getting an arm across
Li Ze after the fired-up youngster threatened to break away, while Njáll Eiríksson limped after landing heavily on one foot.
Sigursteinn Magnússon would not be left out, and he was eventually sent off after a horrible tackle on
Tim Hobson that nearly forced the English goalscorer off the pitch.
