Grilled 7 - 0 Tecos
It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd of 86125 that came out to
The Cooking Pot.
Theobald Hare was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Konrad Poniecki and
Dilnur Osmonkulov. The intense heat made it hard for players relying on strength or speed to shine. On the other hand, it provided perfect conditions for the more technical players. Grilled fielded:
Salmiņš -
Panigrahi,
Jeftić -
Xin Lee,
Xin Seng,
ter Berg,
Mohammad Harun,
Parvathaneni -
Mudaliar,
Ze Han,
Egan.
Tecos's starters:
Akefalos -
Long Jie,
Balog,
Aires,
Machado -
Pawar,
Zangari,
Lipari,
Kamarul Azhar -
Bülles,
Rigotti.
It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 2-5-3 formation while the visitors instead opted for 4-4-2. Grilled seemed to prefer attacking in the middle, taking advantage of their divine (+8) (28) level with that tactic. It was an obvious ambition of Tecos to use their divine (+1) (21) ability at attacking on the flanks. The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to
Kalki Parvathaneni, but the Grilled player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0! A great save by keeper
Trifonas Akefalos after 9 minutes kept the visitors in the game after
Chan Ze Han struck from the left with a real cannonball. 30 minutes into the match, Grilled's
Kalki Parvathaneni demonstrated his famed speed as he raced past his marker and passed the ball to
Vikram Mudaliar who chipped it in for 2 - 0. Things were going to get worse for the visitors.
Bernie Egan squirmed through their central defence after 34 minutes, increasing the lead to 3 - 0. 39 minutes into the game, Grilled's
Moey Xin Seng took a seemingly painful knock to his chest. However, he gritted his teeth and decided to play on. Cheers filled the stadium as
Chu Xin Lee broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 4 - 0 to Grilled. Grilled's
Chu Xin Lee has the wonderful ability to create chances out of thin air. 43 minutes into the match he bamboozled a couple of opposition defenders before sending the keeper the wrong way and sidefooting the ball home into an empty net. That totally unexpected burst of flair made it 5 - 0. After 44 minutes a well-practised indirect free kick routine by Grilled was easily anticipated by the defenders. The players forward were so well marked, they were left with few viable options. The teams went for the halftime break at 5 - 0. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 77 percent of the ball.
Content with how the game was proceeding, the Grilled coach let
Heng Dong Chu replace
Kalki Parvathaneni after 46 minutes. After 53 minutes,
Bernie Egan put Grilled ahead 6 - 0 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing. After 58 minutes,
Mateja Jeftić sent the corner kick right to
Kalle ter Berg who headed it sharply past the keeper. 7 - 0! Coming in from the right, Tecos had a good opportunity to convert on a counterattack after 66 minutes, but
Andreas Bülles's attempt to finish was easily stopped.
Bhavya Panigrahi would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
Gilbert Webb entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 80 minutes.
Kalle ter Berg wanted to play on, but the Grilled coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 85 minutes into the game by
Salah Kamel. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 3 minutes beyond the regular 90 minutes. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks. Grilled's
Chu Xin Lee saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 91 minutes. The match ends 7 - 0. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 77 percent.
Grilled's best player was
Chan Ze Han.
Chu Xin Lee was a disappointment, however. Most important Tecos player was
Andreas Bülles. However,
Vítor Aires made a disastrous appearance.
