Borstal Bludgeoned
Yunos Rush
This time the visitors were English, and Grilled dished out more of the same with passionate young pair Hobson and Yunos the stars. Borstal epitomised good stolid Brit defence with five patrolling their end, but that could not stand up to the nippy movement of one of their own.
A goalless result could be visualised as Borstal stuck to physical defending and traditional long ball soccer up for team captain Gustave Sharif to run after, and the defender-for-defender swap of Jonathan Perry for Forest Ruffle indicated a set game plan. Perry didn't fit in immediately, and Englishman
Tim Hobson must have felt their discomfiture as he fearlessly streaked right through, doing great with Magunsson's opening pass. Energetic winger Murray Keene gave
Tan Ong fits down the right, and Borstal fought back through the sharp Scott Roots who delved in when all others misread the outswinging cross.
Tan Ong repaid Borstal in like fashion when he held the ball up and outmuscled Andy Pliaskin in a shoulder pushing contest as he pressed up, eventually making it 2-1 after Nick Phillips let the rammed shot slip through his palms. That entertained the watchers no end, judging from their frentic chanting.
Borstal's defence never looked comfortable and the five defenders often encroached on each others' territories needlessly, a scenario all too familiar to
Tim Hobson who matched their best with a spirited unstoppable header. It was nothing less than he deserved after his all-round commitment, for which he had a yellow card to show for.
Rookie Yunos then repeated a trick he used often in the youth ranks, pushing the ball past Douglas MacMinn on one side and going around him on the other. A skilful touch ensured Grilled' fourth, and left Borstal fuming at his impudence. Haggart made his displeasure known with a full-blooded whack at Yunos which brought a booking, but they did not have it all their way as goalscorer Scott Roots came on the end of a tit-for-tat trip from Ong Tan.
Attimarad, who was lost on the left flank, made one of his few complete passes next. Yunos's pace took him clear of the defence a second time, and he went all the way to slot the fifth home from inside the six-yard box. Borstal's skipper Gustave Sharif took matters in his own hand as he backtracked to flatten Yunos with a fair tackle, then stood over him to give him a piece of his mind. The fans booed as the referee raced over to give the teenager some protection and take Sharif's name down, but Yunos was finished for the rest of the game.
