United Iced
Subri Superb
Amateur East Coast-based side ice utd were given a lesson by the Birds, who
hit eleven past them without reply in a bid to erase the unpleasant memories
of their recent relegation.
The all-local ice utd team were a picture of intensity as they ran at every
ball, but this kept Grilled away for all for nine minutes as
Feng Darong
dropped his shoulder and moved past two overeager defenders to cross to an
unmarked Penati.
The hosts weren't broken by that, though they must have seen little way back
into the game. That didn't prevent them from dishing out full-blooded
challenges, and fishmonger Ding Xuanting could have done serious damage had
his lunge on Penati connected more solidly. Even then, the Italian had to wait
several minutes before gingerly standing up again.
Grilled strung together a series of nice passes to supply Subri and Darong
with the second and third goals respectively, while Rotteveel for once floated
a ball into the box instead of aiming for the corners from a free-kick. Zoltán
Árva went unnoticed at the far side, and tapped it in simply enough.
Subri tied up his hat-trick with another before and another after the interval, with
Feng Darong's well-weighted pass for the third goal raising some eyebrows. Talib then displayed some nice tricks for a defender, bluffing his way past a defender to make it seven.
The home team's poor fitness levels began to tell, and Penati chose this time to get more physical. He got away with a slightly late tackle on wingback Mohd Hairul Nizam bin Saad that left the system administrator limping, and returned Mohd Hairul's dirty look with a smirk of his own.
Subri, Branbilla, Rotteveel and Árva mopped up in the final minutes, with ice utd midfielder Nor Zeland Zakariar getting a yellow card as his team's last act in this season's edition of the Singapore Cup.
