Khawajat Glimmer
Stopping The Rot
Grilled took a holiday from their atrocious form in the league
by sending their full first team to hammer Kuwaiti Division Two
club EL-KHAWAJAT, which might have been regarded as less than
sporting had circumstances not been so dire.
The home team, which had only recently been founded, looked
smart in their uniform of white shirts and yellow shorts, but
their cosmopolitan side were a class below Grilled's battle-
hardened campaigners. Rotteveel struck the first blow as he
fooled the young Hossam Abu-Aziz with a crossover dribble, and
sent the ball past Prince Simbajon.
The EL-KHAWAJAT side, despite promoting from the third division
not long ago, had yet to find a true understanding, and the
defence did little more than watch
Zoltán Árva jog up to a nice
pass from Penati, who had Hörlen in fits. The Hungarian defender
calmly walked it past Simbajon for 2-0.
The Italian winger has sometimes been accused of being a flat-
track bully, and it certainly looked that way as he mercilessly
tormented anybody who came close to him on the right. They
finally gave up in the 26th minute, and Penati was free to pass
to the equally quick Rotteveel to score his second. Penati might
have had one for himself, had he not knocked it into the
bar.
It was the same comedy of errors in the second half, with Simbajon looking distinctly less than royal as he miscalculated a back header from Parrado. Rotteveel, who had barely come back from an offside position, nonchalently stuck a foot out and collected one of the easiest hat-tricks of his career.
The Dutchman would score once more against Simbajon, and once against his successor Essa Camhi, after Simbajon suffered a leg injury in clearing the ball. Midfielder Purwanto Kartiko was also substituted in the 81st minute after twisting his ankle, to cap a dismal display by the home team.
