Dicke Over

It was a pretty good opening day of the post-season generational trophies, all considered, with but a single loss amongst the nine fixtures that the Grilled clubs were involved in. This loss was inflicted by German IV.8 side Empor Dicke Bälle, who did all they could against a Grilled Birds team that just didn't click in the second half.

Before that, it was a pair of easy victories for the Birds, as they started with Chilean third division strugglers Che Querido. Querido's rise had been meteoric, as they promoted twice in quick succession, but they would then be in over their heads. This was true against Grilled, with Chan Ze Han working off the loss of his Golden Boot with a quickfire brace. The hosts' consolation came from Federico Yanez in between those goals, with their Number Six reacting quickest to a fumbled corner kick take.

Next would be Italian Division Five side Ronchel F.C., who took the lead through Håkan Lindström in the 23rd minute, before eventually falling 3-8 as the Birds' superior endurance won out towards the end. The roles were reversed against Empor Dicke Bälle, however, with the Germans finishing strongest, after an opening period marked by near-misses. Their Georgian forward Rafiel Lobzhanidze had to be assigned the bulk of the credit, for his cool-headedness in front of goal.

Farmer Bunnies made it a clean sweep in their first three Heroes of 2014 Trophy matches, beginning with a 5-1 thrashing of Serbian Division Five winners, Blokovi United. Tham Leng Teck opened with a neat header, and Sieb Verlaan's last-gasp reducer would be answered by Lau Chang Wan in injury time. Brendan Leung would go on to score against Indonesian III.3 champions FC Gunner No AW next, with another injury-time strike from an indefatigable Mushtag Al-Nameeri this time.

That secured a 3-1 result, but the Buns' final fixture of the day - coincidentally against yet another league titlewinner in Ireland's K4RT3L G-Town - would be their hardest. The Dublin-based Division Three side were conservative, and were not in any hurry to try and claim anything more than a point. It took a flash of genius from Farmer Bunnies' forward line to open them up with twelve minutes remaining, and it was captain Tham who let fly the winner past Roderyk Nijakowski.

Grilled International's day would start with a straightforward walkover against Italian H.I. representatives Sayanju International, who had effectively withdrawn from the tourney. This set International against Swiss VI.80 club Decermilo FC next, and it was Osertz Indurain who rose to the occasion, nicking two goals by the 36th minute. Paulo Inácio Matarazzo reduced five minutes before the interval, but Didi Reidenbach then made sure with a converted penalty, 77 minutes in.

International would be stopped by Uruguayan Division Four champions Águilas F.C. next, despite Wang Hanxuan and Fausto Perono giving them a two-goal lead. They might even have lost it had Leon Moon's gambit come off in the 78th, but as it was, the competitors had to settle for a 3-3 draw.
