Han Licks Infernus
Extended To Eight
With BravoRavo and L1verpool out of contention for the qualifier spots, Grilled managed to put one over old foes FC RaZer Infernus yet again in the dead rubber between the two. With elimination matches looming over both sides, the fans should understand why the players were not eager to overextend themselves.
For all that, there was still plenty of heart in the fixture, which had barely gotten off to a start when
Maikel Rotteveel got his name on the scoreboard. RaZer had looked to rush at Grilled's men and unsettle them, but Feuchter was surprised by Jie Siong switching flanks with van Liere and Rotteveel was faultless with the tip of his toe.
That did not go down well with the RaZer fans, who urged their side to tear into Grilled. Zou Tsu-Yee took their exhortations a little too literally, judging from the way he tried to hack Kek-Tjiang down in midfield. Shen was unscathed thanks to his reflexes, but the referee still flashed a yellow as a warning.
Their persistance finally paid off in the 32nd minute, when Weng Shen floated wide to create a two-on-one against Talib. The Pakistani went by the book in marking the closer opponent, but this gave Weng all the time in the world to size up his delivery. His vision picked out Shen Mun-Nee free inside the six-yard box, and then it was simple to put it past Sulaiman.
The full house at Coliseum d'Hauts Esprits were egging for a draw at least, but for some reason Grilled were able to gain the upper hand in the second half. The palpable tension running through the RaZer players may have had something to do with it, as a horrific decision to pass the ball back was nearly punished by the speedy
Dimitri Simon. Thankfully for Jiao-Long, the Belgian shot early and missed by some distance.
It was still not to be for RaZer, however, as Grilled claimed their victory in an unexpected manner. Han just happened to be at the right spot after a failed corner, and when Sid hit the ball back upfield none thought that he was a threat to get through by himself. Years of facing off against top strikers surely leads to some of their tricks rubbing off on a defender, however, and Han arrowed in a rising effort to keep Grilled's streak intact.
