Swiss Superior
There was no victory to be had on the third and last day of the Trophy of Legends for the Birds, which began with Steinheim wiping the floor with them, five goals to nil. The Swiss third divisioners might have been flattered slightly, but they also made it easier for themselves by having honed their distance shooting to a fine art.
Worse was to come at the hands of another Swiss side in Feel Good Corp., who smashed a discouraged Grilled, 8-0. The Birds recovered enough of themselves to take on Sininen Kyynel, but the Finnish Division Four team nonetheless prevailed, aided by fullback Joel Wik's brace from overlaps.
Hovaness Noubaryan agreed that it was not the nicest of records to sign off a tournament on, but added that the Birds had bigger fish - or in this case, tigers - to fry. "We'll put this behind us quickly, one way or the other."
Farmer Bunnies began with two draws, the first a goalless affair against the similarly defence-oriented A.S. Coronella of the Italian sixth division. Germany's trifusch Utd. would go ahead through Kurt-Jürgen Stapfer's busting down the door in the sixth minute, but
Jon Benson would answer with some clever anticipation, seven minutes before half-time.
The dam burst against Norwegian Division Six winners Hasle/Løren IL, who were evidently stuck in holiday mood; they would concede nine as the Buns picked them off at will, and the biggest surprise was how nobody managed a hat-trick in all that scoring.
International, like the Birds, had it hard going, as they were completely overwhelmed by Finnish H.I. side Pitskun Lepo Galactical Imperial Leather for the first hour. They would pick themselves up to claim two through
Safari bin Hj Jali and
Wang Hanxuan, to ride to a 2-7 finish.
They came closer against Chilean Division Six champs PIXADOS C.F, as they matched them goal for goal thrice, before finally going ahead through
Micky bin Kadir's argy-bargy in the 72nd minute. Cypriot defender-turned-winger Orestis Kyriakidis wasn't having that, though, and he flew in to beat
Querubim Santos Couto twice after that for the win.
Triumph would finally come against Swedish fifth divisioners Los Zapatatonicos, with
Osertz Indurain distinguishing himself in the 5-2. The Zapa midfield was often at a loss against Indurain's no-frills direct running, which opened up the field for his teammates... and brought two goals for himself.
