Portuguesa 0 - 2 Grilled
In a special plea, the Portuguesa manager had gone on local radio to tell fans how important their support is to the team. As the players entered the field, the crowd rose to their feet and started chanting their names.
It had rained all day, but 4297 hardy fans still made it out to
Batalha de Diu.
Zak Ego was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Liborio Negroni and
Goran Pali. The rain was pouring down, it was the kind of weather favoured by strong players who stick to simple football. For players blessed by speed or technical skills, the day really was as grim as for everyone else. The following players took the field for Portuguesa:
Serafim -
Cagnin,
Deák,
Castelo Dias,
Cerqueira,
Lacerda Escobar -
Melender,
Öznil,
Karlsen,
Paiva,
Souza Faria -.
Grilled's lineup was:
Vara -
Jaška,
Khairul -
Trindade,
An Keng,
Keng Chuan,
Teck Fu,
Ferzan -
Balde,
Ming Xin,
Chitre.
Fúria Portuguesa fielded a 5-5-0 lineup. For Grilled Birds, the formation of choice was 2-5-3. Pressing was the tactic of the day for Portuguesa, taking advantage of their passable (6) level with that tactic. The terraces were silenced after 20 minutes when Grilled's
Radovan Jaška put the guests ahead 0 - 1, following an attack on the right. After 25 minutes, Grilled attempted an attack but had to cede the ball in frustration. They could not find their way through the mighty
Vural Öznil, who acted as an effective roadblock on Portuguesa's defensive midfield.
Ibnou Balde's experience almost gave Grilled a goal after 35 minutes but the keeper made a great save. 36 minutes into the match,
Phua Ming Xin came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 1. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 63 percent of possession.
The pressing tactics used by Portuguesa were successful as the ball remained close to the half way line at all times. With 52 minutes played,
Raniery Castelo Dias of Portuguesa fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. 80 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution.
Teo Chuan Yong came on for
Mohd Marzuki Khairul.
Lim An Keng was, after 80 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper
Rafael Serafim made the save.
Hwang Teck Fu of Grilled took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 81 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 2. Portuguesa pressed their opponents, causing the game to be a bit of a stalemate at times. A misunderstanding between the visitors' keeper
Louis Vara and his left defence could have resulted in a goal for Portuguesa, but
Vural Öznil's finish was way too lame. With things not going too well on the field, the Portuguesa coach made the decision to swap the positions of
Donizetti Cerqueira and
Albert Paiva with 89 minutes played. Still trailing on the score board, Portuguesa adjusted their tactics after 89 minutes.
Péter 'Pan' Deák had a quick chat at the side line, then switched positions with
Thorvald 'Magrinho' Karlsen. Sensing defeat in the air, the Portuguesa manager directed
Raniery Castelo Dias and
Vural Öznil to change positions with each other. This was 89 minutes into the match. After 89 minutes of the match, the manager still hoped to turn things around.
Maicon Douglas Cagnin was ordered to assume a different position on the pitch. He took the place of
Jari Melender, who in turn replaced his team mate. Maybe due to the uphill battle the team was facing, the Portuguesa manager looked to change things around. After 89 minutes,
Hariston Lacerda Escobar and
Romário Souza Faria swapped positions on the field.
Aw Keng Chuan would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
Bilal Mohammad Harun entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 89 minutes. As the 89 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution.
Radovan Jaška reluctantly made way for
冬馬 (Toma) 田宮 (Tamiya) on the pitch. As
Radovan Jaška left the field, the coach signaled to
Teo Chuan Yong to be the new set pieces taker. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 1 minute of added time they, nonetheless, welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. The match ends 0 - 2. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 62 percent of the time.
The most dominating Portuguesa player was without a doubt
Péter 'Pan' Deák.
Rafael Serafim turned in a dismal performance, however. Grilled's top performer was clearly
Gandhik Chitre.
冬馬 (Toma) 田宮 (Tamiya) on the other hand, had a terrible day.
