Barnes accepted that a lot was up in the air, with Gimnasia having just come under new ownership, but was prepared to fight for a spot.
Lim Hock Puay, who had scouted Barnes for the academy after tracking him across several informal pick-up sessions, thought that the 17 year-old had the grit to make it. "Cesar has been pretty solid for us whether centrally or on the wing, which gives him more areas in which he can make an impact. And really, it takes quite some courage to take a leap like that."
