Grilled 6 - 1 Zapfhahn

The crowd of 3716 turning up at The Cooking Pot today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain. Torben Kber was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Forster Quansah and Juan Luis Verastegui. The wet pitch made it difficult for technical or quick players to stand out. For once, the players relying on physical strength gained the upper hand. Grilled's starters: Vadal - Mangoye, Webb - Baena, Kwang Tse, Chitre, Teck Fu, Trindade - Ferzan, Chuan Yong, Mohammad Harun.

The following players took the field for Zapfhahn: Adea - Kumi, Abrefa, Kyere - Adjei, Gyamfi, Addo, Akosah, Botwe - Boadi, Arthur.

Grilled Birds started the game in a 2-5-3 formation, whereas BSG Zapfhahn Zarre lined up in a 3-5-2 formation. Today, Grilled's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks, taking advantage of their world class (13) level with that tactic. After 14 minutes, Zapfhahn's Kobina Boadi made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 0 - 1. With 16 minutes played, the excellent ball from the wing by Grilled's Enrique Baena reached Chia Kwang Tse's head, and he is not one to miss such an opportunity - 1 - 1. Attacking on the wings was the choice for Grilled, and they were successfully passing the ball from the middle to the wings to attack. Grilled took the lead 21 minutes in, as Gandhik Chitre broke through on the left and put the 2 - 1 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper. Grilled's Enrique Baena showed off his trademark ability to do the unexpected with a tricky pass after 29 minutes. Unfortunately, Egemen Diner Ferzan was startled by the play and wasn't able to control the finish. With 32 minutes played, Kobina Boadi came in from the right and could have evened the score, but the defenders successfully repelled the attack by Zapfhahn. Things were deteriorating for the away team as Grilled scored another to make it 3 - 1 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for Paulino Trindade after 35 minutes. Grilled managed to extend their lead to 4 - 1 when Hwang Teck Fu cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. With 41 minutes played, Grilled's Paulino Trindade almost extended the lead, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net. 4 - 1 was the halftime score. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 67 percent of the time.

46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Gandhik Chitre gave Aw Keng Chuan a quick hug as he left the field. As the 46 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution. Bilal Mohammad Harun reluctantly made way for Kalki Parvathaneni on the pitch. After 50 minutes, Enrique Baena put Grilled ahead 5 - 1 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave Teo Chuan Yong from Grilled a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 52 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! With 60 minutes played, Grilled put themselves up 6 - 1 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to Teo Chuan Yong, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home. Grilled's Paulino Trindade swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defence were able to clear the ball. After 85 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Teo Chuan Yong off the field. Moey Xin Seng took his place. With Teo Chuan Yong no longer on the pitch, Gilbert Webb took over free kick duty. The players were tired, but when the referee announced that there would be 3 minutes of added time they, nonetheless, welcomed the extra opportunity to make an impact. Chia Kwang Tse could have put Grilled up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 89 minutes. The match ends 6 - 1. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 67 percent of possession.

Grilled's best player was Aw Keng Chuan. On the other hand, Manuel Vadal's play was disheartening. Zapfhahn's top performer was clearly David Addo. However, Peace Kumi made a disastrous appearance.
