Grilled 0 - 2 Dragon
The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 39782 had shown up at
The Cooking Pot for the match.
Niakar Basse was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Jakob Luksch and
Andrea Paganoni. The following players took the field for Grilled:
Vadal -
Mangoye,
Hutter -
Teck Fu,
Kwang Tse,
Chitre,
Khairul,
Trindade -
Ze Han,
Xin Seng,
Parvathaneni.
The following players had been chosen by Dragon:
Bhole -
Yang,
Keong Jing -
Mohamad,
Norshahrul Idlan,
Mattila,
Keong Kim,
Fujita -
Safir,
Taha,
Syukri.
As the teams prepared to start the match, they both lined up in a 2-5-3 formation. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle, taking advantage of their titanic (15) level with that tactic. Some great play up the middle by Grilled led to a chance for
Paulino Trindade to score after 12 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar. Grilled's
Paulino Trindade's long shot really ought to have found the net 20 minutes into the match, but it fell just wide of the target.
Fan Keong Jing showed why he is feared on the counterattack, breaking through in the middle and scoring for Dragon after 21 minutes to make the score 0 - 1. After 24 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave
Wan Abu Bakar Taha a chance to increase the lead for Dragon, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 2. It was 0 - 2 at the break. Grilled claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.
After 46 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
Chia Kwang Tse off the field.
Chad Thach took his place. Still trailing on the score board, Grilled adjusted their tactics after 46 minutes.
Hwang Teck Fu had a quick chat at the side line, then switched positions with
Mohd Marzuki Khairul. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. 60 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution.
Teo Chuan Yong came on for
Moey Xin Seng.
Moey Xin Seng was coming off, and had placed his last free kick for the day. That meant that
Teo Chuan Yong got the chance to showcase his dead ball skills. The Grilled captaincy was handed to
Chan Ze Han. The crowd was amused as
Damian Hutter of Grilled used a few interesting tricks and dribbles to get into the penalty box. The finish by
Kalki Parvathaneni wasn't very amusing, however, as the ball flew way over the crossbar. As the 80 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution.
Kalki Parvathaneni reluctantly made way for
Jos Luiz Velho on the pitch. The Dragon players could smell victory in the air.
Wan Abu Bakar Taha wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
Chia Yun Yong after 87 minutes. With
Wan Abu Bakar Taha no longer on the pitch,
Chia Yun Yong took over free kick duty. The match ends 0 - 2. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 53 percent of the time.
Grilled's top performer was clearly
Chan Ze Han.
Manuel Vadal turned in a dismal performance, however. The most dominating Dragon player was without a doubt
Chia Yun Yong. However,
Mansor Safir made a disastrous appearance.
