Grilled 4 - 0 Tonners
The crowd of 37230 turning up at
The Cooking Pot today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain.
Ryan 'Private Charlie' Chaplin was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Hugh Woodhouse and
Gonzalo Cangas. For strong, physical players the heavy rain was easy to overcome, it was even an advantage given their style of play. Others, such as the quick or technical ones, made bleaker appearances. Grilled's lineup was:
Vadalà -
Panigrahi,
Hutter -
Baena,
Thach,
Keng Chuan,
An Keng,
Ferzan -
Chuan Yong,
Xin Seng,
Parvathaneni.
Tonners's starters:
Migliozzi -
Ahn,
Forma,
Zabel -
Nápoles,
Siong Eng,
Hariry,
Teja,
Balkovič -
Lam,
An Soon.
Grilled Birds started the game in a 2-5-3 formation, whereas HEBFC Tonners FC lined up in a 3-5-2 formation. Grilled seemed to prefer attacking in the middle, taking advantage of their supernatural (14) level with that tactic. Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Tonners, taking advantage of their outstanding (10) level with that tactic. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. Some great play up the middle by Grilled led to a chance for
Chad Thach to score after 3 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
Erik Nápoles from Tonners a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 22 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
Andrea Migliozzi had to be alert to tip
Bhavya Panigrahi's fantastic penalty kick over the bar, denying Grilled a chance at the lead. Coming in from the right, Tonners had a good opportunity to convert on a counterattack after 27 minutes, but
Michal Balkovič's attempt to finish was easily stopped. Making his way up the middle 35 minutes into the match,
Chad Thach almost managed to squeeze a goal past the visitors' keeper, but the alert
Andrea Migliozzi blocked it to keep the score level. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. Grilled's
Teo Chuan Yong tried to break through in the middle repeatedly, but couldn't get past the visitors' defenders. It was obvious that team Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. After a fine move down the middle
Moey Xin Seng nearly gave the home side a goal after 39 minutes. However the finishing shot went just wide.
Enrique Baena of Grilled was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. It was 0 - 0 at the break. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 63 percent of the time.
46 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution.
Hwang Teck Fu came on for
Chad Thach. Grilled took the lead 48 minutes in, as
Teo Chuan Yong broke through on the left and put the 1 - 0 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks. Cheers filled the stadium as
Aw Keng Chuan broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 2 - 0 to Grilled.
Moey Xin Seng had a fantastic opportunity to put Grilled up another goal 63 minutes into the match after a pass through the middle set him free, but he fired just over the crossbar.
Bhavya Panigrahi struck a 30 metre free kick home 66 minutes into the match. 3 - 0 for the home team. 73 minutes in, Grilled's
Aw Keng Chuan received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
Balasubramanian Teja was in no condition to play on. He left the field limping after 74 minutes, with his left thigh bandaged.
Tan Tse Kok had already been warming up, and came on for
Balasubramanian Teja.
Moey Xin Seng would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
Bilal Mohammad Harun entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 75 minutes. As the captain was no longer on the pitch,
Bilal Mohammad Harun took over the role of being the Grilled captain. 80 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
Bhavya Panigrahi gave
Gilbert Webb a quick hug as he left the field.
Bhavya Panigrahi was coming off, and had placed his last free kick for the day. That meant that
Bilal Mohammad Harun got the chance to showcase his dead ball skills. 80 minutes into the game, Grilled were awarded a penalty that
Bilal Mohammad Harun turned into 4 - 0 without a problem. As the match nears its end, the referee has deemed it appropriate to add 3 minutes as stoppage time. The match ends 4 - 0. Grilled had most of the ball, with 63 percent of possession.
Most important Grilled player was
Aw Keng Chuan. On the other hand,
Teo Chuan Yong's play was disheartening. Tonners's top performer was clearly
Myron Lam.
Tan Tse Kok was a disappointment, however.
