The teams had chosen different formations for the match. Home team Gilm FC went for 3-5-2 while Grilled Birds has decided to play a 2-5-3 lineup. After 3 minutes, Grilled's
Hwang Teck Fu made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 0 - 1. After 26 minutes of game time,
Chad Thach had an excellent opportunity to add to the visitors' lead, clipping a volley hooked in from the right, but
Aleksi Alaharju was in the right place and tipped the ball over for a corner. 36 minutes into the match,
Teo Chuan Yong came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide.
Kaino Koskenkangas of Gilm was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. With 38 minutes played, Grilled's well-worked indirect free kick caused havoc in the penalty area, and when the ball eventually fell to
Aw Keng Chuan he gleefully slotted the ball home to make it 0 - 2.
Kari Savinainen charged down the left and looked sure to score for Gilm 42 minutes into the game, but his shot went just wide. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 2. Grilled enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 61 percent of possession.
As the 46 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution.
Chad Thach reluctantly made way for
Chia Kwang Tse on the pitch. Still ahead in the game after 46 minutes, Grilled made some tactical adjustments.
Hwang Teck Fu and
Mohd Marzuki Khairul swapped positions.
Kalki Parvathaneni would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
Radovan Jaška entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 46 minutes.
Mohd Marzuki Khairul could have put his team up another goal 47 minutes into the game, after a rush down the left, but his closing shot hit the post. Gilm's
Kaino Koskenkangas skillfully knocked a pass over the top after 68 minutes, and that was received by
Jussi Harila who just managed to slot it past the opposing goalkeeper for 1 - 2. 70 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution.
Moey Xin Seng came on for
Teo Chuan Yong. With
Teo Chuan Yong no longer on the pitch,
Moey Xin Seng became the new set pieces taker.
Moey Xin Seng was handed the Grilled captain's armband. The home crowd cheered when, after 79 minutes,
Mohd Marzuki Khairul's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day. With 83 minutes gone, Grilled had a free kick in a decent position. Despite this being a great chance for a shot, they tried a cheeky move intended to bypass the defence. However,
José Luiz Velho did not manage to connect with it cleanly and the ball went out. It emerged that
Aleksi Alaharju had hurt his right foot after 85 minutes, which led him to abandon the game. The player that took his place was
Henri Möttö. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 1 minute. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 1 - 2. Grilled had most of the ball, with 60 percent of possession.
Most important Gilm player was
Jussi Harila.
Jesse Linnakoski was a disappointment, however. The most dominating Grilled player was without a doubt
Moey Xin Seng. On the other hand,
Radovan Jaška's play was disheartening.
