Vilnius 5 - 3 Grilled

2013 spectators had come to FC Vilnius Knights Arena this cloudy day. Soma 'Seventh Son' Vigyikán was the appointed referee with assistance provided by David Herrmann-Wirth and Myron Ooijer. Vilnius fielded: Rudnickis - Tandzegolskis, Pleskis - Paukku, Godzevičius, Jurevičius, Andrés, Gudžunas - Macis, Manomaitis, Massing.

The following players took the field for Grilled: Vadalà - Thevar, Mangoye, Jian Hui - 田宮 (Tamiya), Kwang Tse, Thach, Teck Fu, Baena - Jaška, Mottl.

FC Vilnius Knights fielded a 2-5-3 lineup. For Grilled Birds, the formation of choice was 3-5-2. The wings were the focus of most of Vilnius's attacks on this day, taking advantage of their outstanding (10) level with that tactic. Grilled showed off their excellent (8) creative tactics. 11 minutes into the game, Yee Jian Hui had a great chance to put his team ahead, but his kick from the left went wide. 12 minutes in, Vilnius appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only solid (7). 24 minutes into the game, 冬馬 (Toma) 田宮 (Tamiya) almost gave the visitors the lead, as he clipped a delicate lob over the keeper, but the ball glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. The home crowd was not impressed by the fancy moves of Grilled's Prokop Mottl after 25 minutes. He converted a pass from the left for a goal, resulting in the visitors taking the 0 - 1 lead. After 40 minutes, Grilled's Chirag Thevar burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 2. Vilnius were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings. A marvellous Vilnius effort on the right-hand side resulted in a goal after 42 minutes by Liucius Macis, making the score 1 - 2. As Enrique Baena had, completely unprovoked, swept the legs out from under an opponent in front of a linesman, the referee gave the Grilled player a red card without batting an eyelid. After 44 minutes, Pekka Paukku was massaging his left knee with a worried look on his face, but managed to get up in the end. Halftime score was 1 - 2. Grilled had most of the ball, with 57 percent of possession.

The coach gave his players an extra tactical briefing during the break, and after that Vilnius had solid (7) organisation. As the 46 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution. Chia Kwang Tse reluctantly made way for Lim An Keng on the pitch. Attacking on the wings was the choice for Vilnius, and they were successfully passing the ball from the middle to the wings to attack. With 47 minutes having been played, Vilnius scored to make it 2 - 2. A dribble down the left wing, followed by a shot which took a wicked bounce off a defender resulted in the keeper having no chance. Everyone thought it'd been an own goal, but Santaras Manomaitis was marked down as the scorer. 65 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Prokop Mottl gave José Luiz Velho a quick hug as he left the field. The Grilled free kick 68 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of Hwang Teck Fu, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 2 - 3! Vilnius's Jazminas Jurevičius got himself booked for a foul. 冬馬 (Toma) 田宮 (Tamiya) was unable to continue, following a slight injury to his right knee after 71 minutes. This gave Paulino Trindade a chance to take to the field instead. 73 minutes into the game, Vilnius had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to solid (7). We may never know what Chad Thach was thinking when he tried to pass the ball through a crowd of opponents. Luckily for him, Vilnius's Liucius Macis somehow missed the wide open net. 76 minutes in, and Vilnius were able to score the equalising goal to make it 3 - 3 when Liucius Macis picked up a pass coming in from the right and chipped it past the away team's keeper. A spectacular volley from Chad Thach almost resulted in a goal, but a good save from the keeper kept it out, and Radovan Jaška could only knock the loose ball wide. With 79 minutes played, Chad Thach of Grilled fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. Santaras Manomaitis caused the crowd to go mental with his goal up the middle after 80 minutes. This gave Vilnius the 4 - 3 lead. Cheers filled the stadium as Santaras Manomaitis broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 5 - 3 to Vilnius. That made three goals for Santaras Manomaitis and he was marked down for the hat trick. As the match nears its end, the referee has deemed it appropriate to add 5 minutes as stoppage time. The match ends 5 - 3. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 56 percent of the ball.

Kasparas Gudžunas performed admirably for Vilnius. However, Jobst Massing made a disastrous appearance. Grilled's top performer was clearly José Luiz Velho. On the other hand, Yee Jian Hui's play was disheartening.
