Kalki Returns
A 37 year-old
Kalki Parvathaneni would be signed back from Tampines Phoenix F.C. for S$0.6 million, a considerable discount over the S$1.5 million that the Phoenixes laid out for him, just over half a season ago. In that time, Kalki had appeared in just five matches, the latest a 5-0 friendly smashing of FC Roma RD Congo - after a layoff of over a month - where he managed only a yellow card. The only goal he managed would come in a 3-1 qualifier win over Chokos to ascend to the S-League, in the 76th minute.
Kalki held no hard feelings, however, and thanked the Phoenix fans for their patience and support. "It was good to experience something new, and Tampines have something good going - but there's no place like home!"
Head coach
Tian Yonghang hinted that the returnee might yet have a role to play as Grilled enter their transition, although Kalki will first have to overcome a slump in form. For now, Kalki will be keeping the Number 20 that he adopted at the Phoenixes as a souvenir of his stay there, despite his original number being free. "Heck, save it for a new guy." he quipped. "I'm a pensioner now."
