The teams had chosen different formations for the match. Home team Madriz C.F. went for 5-5-0 while Grilled Birds has decided to play a 3-5-2 lineup. The strategy for Madriz was to use their solid (7) ability to press. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle, taking advantage of their extra-terrestrial (16) level with that tactic. With 7 minutes played Benicio Davalillo almost put the home team one ahead on a cross coming in from the right, but the shot went just wide. Grilled were given a free kick 8 minutes into the game, just after a swift counter attack broke down. Rather than shooting straight at goal, it was directed at the area just in front of the keeper. The attackers made several runs and made it hard for the defenders to protect their goal. After a short tussle with a defender, Teo Chuan Yong could finally lay the ball to rest behind the keeper. 0 - 1, and prove it can pay off to come prepared. Madriz's talent at pressing frustrated the spectators as the game became a dire midfield struggle. It was obvious that team Grilled had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. With the clock showing 21 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of Madriz resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by Dušan Stevanović in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high. With 28 minutes played, Madriz's Domingo Arámbula found an opening in the visitors' left side defence, but his shot was handled easily by the keeper. The referee showed Grilled's Dante Tran the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Halftime score was 0 - 1. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 58 percent of the ball.

After 46 minutes, the Madriz coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Dušan Stevanović off the field. Adrián Morillo took his place. Benicio Davalillo was the new captain of Madriz - handed the armband by the departing player. 46 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution. Moey Xin Seng came on for Teo Chuan Yong. The Grilled captaincy was handed to Moey Xin Seng. 46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Heng Dong Chu gave Kalki Parvathaneni a quick hug as he left the field. In a rapid move 56 minutes into the match, Kalki Parvathaneni of Grilled lost his man and passed the ball to the unmarked 冬馬 (Toma) 田宮 (Tamiya) who easily hit it home to make it 0 - 2. Luckily the ref didn't see him taunting the opposing fans in celebration - naughty boy! At this time in the match, Madriz were using their skill at pressing to successfully stifle the game. Madriz's ability to press all over the field frequently paid dividends. The pressing tactics used by Madriz were successful as the ball remained close to the half way line at all times. Benicio Davalillo would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. Dieter Baumgartner entered the game for Madriz as the match clock showed 89 minutes. Madriz's top performer was clearly Danoush Khoshkharam. Giorgio Avellano on the other hand, had a terrible day. Most important Grilled player was Moey Xin Seng. Atang Mangoye was a disappointment, however.
