Caracol 1 - 8 Grilled
768 fans braved the pouring rain at
Bears Field.
Jörn Petzka was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Cristiano Bonfigli and
Peter Carlsson. The pitch was a disaster, due to all the rain. This spelled problems for the more sophisticated players, who usually could rely on speed or technique. For those relying on grit and strength, it actually meant an edge. They fielded:
Cuvelier -
Shamilov,
Kojobekov,
Mirbek Uulu,
Arslan Uulu,
Ilyaz Uulu -
Munarbekov,
Arzybaev,
Hemmingsen,
Chukobayev -
Domashnev.
Lineup:
Serpin -
奥谷 (Okuya),
中北 (Nakakita),
Tarin -
Parvathaneni,
Ze Han,
Mudaliar,
Egan,
Davlatov -
Xin Seng,
Mottl.
Caracol Bears fielded a 5-4-1 lineup. For Grilled Birds, the formation of choice was a 3-5-2. As quick as a flash,
Kalki Parvathaneni of Grilled lost his man and passed the ball to the wide-open
Moey Xin Seng who easily hit it home to make it 0 - 1. Grilled came close to extending their lead as
Kalki Parvathaneni delivered a low effort on goal from the right but the angle was too sharp, and the shot was destined for the side netting. After 20 minutes, Grilled's
Kalki Parvathaneni burst through the central defense and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 2. Caracol nearly produced a goal as
Islam Shamilov set up
Rustan Munarbekov for a strike from a seemingly impossible angle. He was unprepared though, and put the shot wide. The home fans looked somber as they watched their team give up another goal, this one coming from their right as
Prokop Mottl put one through the keeper's legs. 0 - 3 after 40 minutes. 41 minutes into the game, Caracol seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a solid level of organization. With 42 minutes played, Grilled put themselves up 0 - 4 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was
Moey Xin Seng. 43 minutes in, Caracol appeared unsure on how to play and their organization was only passable. The home crowd was not impressed when
Chan Ze Han came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 43 minutes. Grilled were now up 0 - 5. It was 0 - 5 at the break. Grilled set the tempo, maintaining 73 percent of possession.
A review of the gameplan helped Caracol get back to a solid organization to start the second half. After 46 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Moey Xin Seng off.
José Luiz Velho took his place. As Grilled's captain went off, he handed the armband to
悠太 (Yuta) 中北 (Nakakita).
Islom Davlatov somehow managed to break free of his man on the left wing and only needed a relatively easy finish to bring Grilled's lead up to 0 - 6. After 55 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
Islom Davlatov who increased Grilled's lead to 0 - 7. 62 minutes into the game, Caracol had difficulty finding their positions and their organization dropped to passable. Grilled's
Bernie Egan made it through the home team's defense on the right hand side 64 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded net when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line. With the clock showing 65 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of Caracol resulted in a counter-attack that was smoothly brought under control by
Kochkorbai Mirbek Uulu in the center of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high. Caracol's
Kuttukaly Arslan Uulu got the home crowd going bananas when he finished off a left wing bull rush, reducing the away team's lead to 1 - 7. Grilled already had the lead, so
Vikram Mudaliar probably won't be too disappointed that his speculative shot from the right 69 minutes in fell wide of the goal. 70 minutes into the game, Caracol seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to weak. With the clock showing 87 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
悠太 (Yuta) 中北 (Nakakita) looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
雄輝 (Yuki) 入江 (Irie), though he would have liked to continue. As the captain was no longer on the field,
雄輝 (Yuki) 入江 (Irie) took over the role for Grilled. As the match nears its end, the referee deemed it appropriate to add 3 minutes as stoppage time. The away team's
Chan Ze Han took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 90 minutes increasing Grilled's lead to 1 - 8.
Kuttukaly Arslan Uulu of Caracol received a yellow card after 90 minutes for unsportsmanlike behavior. The match ends 1 - 8. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 76 percent possession in this half was spot on!
Caracol's best player was
Ilya Domashnev. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by
Knud-Erik Hemmingsen today.
Bernie Egan performed admirably for Grilled. Good thing
雄輝 (Yuki) 入江 (Irie) isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance.
