Matt Makes Fribourg
Farmer Bunnies player Matt Wong was taken on by Swiss fifth division club Fribourg United for the nominal sum of S$20000 today. After getting rejected from his first choice, Marina Sailors, Rancher Rabbits head scout Yip De Da took a plunge on Wong some two months later, and was rewarded with a very hardworking student.
Always willing to drill on the fundamentals, Wong's coaches have found it hard to pin his best position down, but he has indicated a slight preference towards defence; Fribourg gaffer Sebastián Arias has not indicated his plans for Wong, but he will at least have company, with former St. Xavier's FC trainee Li Siong Heng joining him at his new side.
His transfer seems to have made relatively few waves among the Fribourg set, partly due to the rather more high-profile S$3.2 million acquisition of midfielder Stefano Steinacker, which suited Wong just fine. "I'm just glad to have been selected."
