The effort paid off as the ball found the back of the net, evening the score at 1 - 1. The home side put themselves ahead 2 - 1 after 36 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from Seytek Djekshenkulov, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing. 37 minutes into the match, Alexis da Marteiro bent a free kick around the home team's defensive formation, leaving the keeper with no chance for a save. Chelsea had levelled the scoreline at 2 - 2. There was concern in the stands when, at the 38 minute mark, Chelsea's Ulli Marschhaeuser hit the ground hard, but he refused the attention of the trainer and rejoined his teammates on the pitch.
