Woon Joins The Flock
22 year-old former national U-20 midfielder
Woon Shun An became the latest Grilled player, as the Birds hammered out a sensible S$4.7 million deal with Division Three club PPP Wonders for the developing talent.
Originally from current S-League side Blackburn Rovers Fan, Woon spent two seasons with Józefovia Józefów in Poland before returning in a S$4.9 million move. He got his first and only cap while with the Wonders, partnering the unfortunately-retired Teeja Keesara in a 1-0 friendly win in Algeria.
It might have been just as well, as the Singapore U-20 side then entered one of their darkest periods with twelve losses in a row, but one of Woon's regrets remains not representing the country more. This could well be rectified in the future, however.
"Grilled have assured me that they will provide me with all the support I need to try for national colours again. I will do my part." a beaming Woon said, holding up the Number Three jersey last worn by Bulgarian international Slavcho Tzonkov.
East Coast side Arcturules were also in for Woon, and head coach
Niculae Stanca acknowledged their eye for quality. "Woon is just the sort of lad a rising club should be after, and unfortunately there just aren't enough such locals to go around. Hopefully they will be able to find another good midfielder that suits them."
Chicken Wings defender Liu Guang Nie meanwhile made an exit, as Rome-based Division Six club Candiolo paid a ceremonial S$8000 for the 17 year-old, who chose them over SC TOZZ (Dutch Division Seven) and Danseuses squaddra (French Division Eight).
