Grilled 2 - 1 Falcons
ouds darkened the skies at The Cooking Pot as 3005 spectators turned up for the match.
Leo Saarenpää was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Renaud Biet and
Gosse de Geus. A 4-3-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Grilled. Starters: Silvera - Qiang Dong, Olsson, Ross, Mausisa - Mourão, Josefsson, Stanca - 修宇 (Xiuyu), bin Mohamad, 勇航 (Yonghang).
Falcons had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation. Lineup: Maura - Bund, Toffanin, Brokas - Sicolo, Spasić, Lavalle, Tarnanen - Al-Kindi, Al-Alawi, Al-Dahel.
Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Grilled. Falcons mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle. Many in the crowd felt the referee was being too lenient when he only showed Falcons's
Luca Toffanin a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 23 minutes into the game. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Falcons's
Edoardo Sicolo got himself booked. Grilled fans held their breath as
Safri bin Mohamad scampered down the left side. He successfully avoided all challenges and cracked home the go-ahead goal for 1-0! 1 - 0 was the score after the first half. This half belonged to Falcons, who controlled the ball 56 percent of the time.
After 61 minutes, the visitors tied it up at 1 - 1 when a fantastic pass from the left was finished off by
Thabet Al-Alawi. 62 minutes into the game,
Martin Alexander Bund was a hair's breadth away from giving Falcons the lead with a shot from over on the left. A prompt block by
Alvaro Silvera saved the home team that time. Some things can only be learned through experience, and
Walter Ross should take his lesson to heart after nearly giving Falcons a goal with 68 minutes of the match played. This was a good period for the visitors, with several opportunities to take the lead, particularly when
Thabet Al-Alawi slipped through the defence on the right to come up alone against
Alvaro Silvera, but the home side's keeper showed his lightning reflexes. 75 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution.
Quah Han Kok came on for
Walter Ross. The forty-five minutes were dominated by Falcons, with an impressive 54 percent possession of the ball.
Not having decided a winner at the end of regulation, the match went into extra time. Grilled took the lead, 2 - 1, after a penalty 103 minutes into the match.
Björn Olsson scored from the penalty spot. With that Grilled had won the game in extra time.
Grilled's top performer was clearly
Safri bin Mohamad.
Chua Qiang Dong was a disappointment, however. The most dominating Falcons player was without a doubt
Denis Brokas. However,
Mutaz Al-Kindi made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 2 - 1.
